McKinney-Vento Student Services
What is McKinney-Vento?
The McKinney–Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 1987 is a United States federal law that provides federal money for students/families who are experiencing homelessness or housing transitions. The McKinney-Vento Act provides rights and services to children and youth experiencing homelessness.
Who Qualifies for McKinney-Vento Services?
A student/family who would qualify for McKinney-Vento would be any student/family who lacks a fixed (stationary, permanent, not subject to change) nighttime residence, a regular (used on a predictable, routine, consistent basis) nighttime residence, and/or an adequate (lawfully & reasonably sufficient, sufficient for meeting physical & psychological needs typically met in a home environment) nighttime residence. McKinney-Vento's largest goal is to eliminate any and all barriers to the educational process that might be impacted by any of the above.
